Valley's extensive yard and shop complex was at one time the major
employer in the valley. Photograph
above shows the facility in April, 1972. Much of it is long-gone
but the car shops continue to rebuild freight
equipment for a private contractor and the hundred-year-old Sayre
Depot is now home to the Sayre
Historical Society.
Norfolk Southern serves the Ithaca [NY] rail line to the north and
interchanges trains with the new Lehigh Railway
in the yard tracks south of the depot. Sayre continues to
see train activity many days a week
