One of New York State's most interesting and
 photographed railroads is the "Susie-Q"!

The NYS&W Railroad moved up into New York State from its New Jersey baseNYS&W 3008 Lanesboro PA 8-26-84 (300tt).jpg (42704 bytes) in 1982 with the railroad's acquisition of Conrail [former DL&W] branch lines between Binghamton to Syracuse & Chenango Forks to Utica.  The railroad created their major shop in the Utica freight house, and run-through service/repair shop at Binghamton.  Crews can be found operating locals out of Syracuse, Binghamton and Utica.  The railroad also operates long-haul trains between its New Jersey division and Binghamton over the NS freight line.

NYS&W 4024 Starrucca Viaduct PA 5-28-89 (300).jpg (37824 bytes)Since 1982 this railroad has never been considered dull!  Operations have included many different excursion services, mainline stack trains, locomotives from almost every builder and models, Chinese steam in the form of 2-8-2 #142, and numerous restoration projects along the right-of-way.  The NYS&W operates a short commuter service in the Syracuse area called Ontrack with RDC's for normal equipment.  At one time the railroad was the designated operator of the D&H before the courts awarded it to Canadian Pacific.
Change has been constant!

And watching the Susie-Q has always been exciting!
