Night
Trains
Photographs by Tom Trencansky
Trains run both day and night and it
can be very enjoyable to be out in the evening, or early morning to capture some night
trains on film. Night photography allows a photographer to create images
that might not be possible during the daytime. The views below are simply a collection of some of
my favorite night photographs. Each has more of a story to tell although we don't
have the space to print it! They represent several very enjoyable evenings
trackside.

1. Railfans have to eat
and while visiting a nearby train show, we photographed the
old style McDonald Restaurant in
Lackawanna, NY. [9-15-84]
2. UP EMD#4121 is brand new and in transit at Elmira, NY. [7-6-00]
3. Finger Lakes GP9 at the Martisco Station [NY], owned by the Central NY Chapter, NRHS.
[5-25-97]
4. My kids were small when they waded into the Arcade, NY creek as Arcade & Attica's
steam locomotive #18 posed on the bridge for this night view. [8-18-90]
5. Metro North FL9 2042 had just been rebuilt and in transit at Elmira, NY.
[11-30-92]
6. The old Lehigh Valley train station had survived as a restaurant for many
years. This evening it would serve as a great prop for this Cornell
Chapter, NRHS night meeting. Neat old cars! [5-12-92]
7. NYLE&W's C425 is posed for a postcard view at the railroad's Gowanda
station. [5-19-90]
8. Cortland Corset company is in the backdrop as NYS&W's 2-8-2 #142 slumbers
through
a warm night near the Cortland, NY train station. [5-2-92]
9. NYS&W ALCO and EMD locomotives share space in the D&H shop building,
Binghamton, NY. [7-1-89]
