Winter in Essex finds a set of BNSF pushers passing in front of the Inn.  (photograph by Don Jilson)

Nightime at the Inn.  The trains never sleep and the rooms facing the mainline will have a great view of all passing trains.  This night photograph is during the October AltaMont railfan weekend.  (flash photography by Dave Busse, Don Jilson, and Tom Trencansky)

Strange vehicles in Montana.  And look at those piles of snow.  March, 1997.

A stained glass window located in the main dining room.  The dining hall is well-illuminated with large picture windows, all overlooking the BNSF mainline.  There's no need to miss a train.

A pair of units at Bison, Montana, oops, actually . . near Browning.  Moooo!

Several views of the Izaak Walton and the dedication of the new bridge over the railroad during October, 2000.  Fans can now safely cross over the BNSF mainline.  The bridge is also an excellent vantage point for photographs.

Dining in the Izaak Walton - this is first class!  And, . . What a view.

Railroad caboose lodges.  The Izaak Walton has several located across the tracks, each decorated in railroad motif and available for your stay.  The mainline is nearby and if you're a light sleeper, think not.  But if you love trains, these are ideal.

Amtrak goes by the front door.  Photograph by Phil Gosney of California, special lighting by David R. Busse of Diamond Bar, CA and Don Jilson, Lowman, NY.

The lobby and gift shop are cozy places!  Photographs by Don Jilson, Lowman, NY.

Every Izaak Walton room is decorated with railroad atmosphere.  Very nice lodging.

Montana is teaming with wildlife.  This elk was photographed near the Inn in March, 1997.

A neat place to stay while at Marias Pass.
