Publications – there are many publications that deal with
railroads in the Adirondacks but a very good reference is the following:
Purple Mountain Press is pleased to announce the publication of Michael Kudish's eagerly awaited, definitive history of the railroads of the Adirondacks from earliest times until the present. The result of the author's twenty-five year study of Adirondack transportation and industrial history is our 496-page, large-format hardcover with more than 200 meticulously drawn maps and 60 pages of historic photographs. Railroads of the Adirondacks: A History is a completely new work with three times the detail and more lines and branches treated than the author's earlier book, Where Did the Tracks Go, which was published in 1985 and is now out of print. This is a book for anyone interested in the Adirondacks, its history, forestry, mining, hotels and railroads. Railroads of the Adirondacks: A History, 496 pages, 8.5 x 11, illustrated, hardcover, $55.00. Write: Purple Mountain Press, Ltd., P.O. Much of the Adirondack region is public. But, the rest is owned and maintained privately and respect and caution should prevail. The Adirondack Scenic Railroad hopes to be around to celebrate the next hundred years and needs to be a partner with the private landowners in this region. Please do not trespass in areas so marked. If asked beforehand, most property owners allow photographs to be taken from their properties. Respect their wishes please.
This guide was created to assist visitors to the Adirondack Scenic RR. We hope you enjoy it. And, just as important – we need your input on changes. Let us know if you find major happenings in the area that should be corrected in the next release. (Thanks for info to: John Sesonske, Shawn Noe, Doug Ellison, Ron Vile, & more!)
