New York Railroads

Bessemer & Lake Erie 728
Photography & comment by Tom Trencansky

The B&LE kept and maintained F-units later than most railroads although restricting them
to lighter service.  One set was kept on a short branch line near Kaylor, PA.  Some days,
you just get lucky.  Visiting the line with a good friend, we were treated to the railroad working the
branch and coalmine and loader.  The crew allowed us to ride and photograph from the cab.
This view from within the tunnel?  Dangerous?  No.  the crew needed to pull a cut through it and
after riding the move, they posed this view. ,
